In college anatomy and physiology I learned something pretty interesting about taking Vitamin C when you have a cold. It has to do with those pills people sometimes take that have something like 2000% of your Vitamin C.

Other things that deplete Vitamin C are smoking, caffeine, antibiotics, cortisone, steroids, aspirin, other painkillers, and too much dairy products.
The human body cannot produce Vitamin C, so it must be taken form outside sources (food, tablets), and is water soluble as she states, it flushes out of your body and must be replenished.
Anything that taxes the immune system: germs, stress, lack of sleep, exposure to temperature changes, greatly increases the amount of Vitamin C your body needs.
