campbells-logoIt’s been a while since we had a celebrity feature in this blog. It’s not that we lack celebrities who are also health advocates. It’s just that there are so many other heart(y) topics to write about.

But with the heart month coming to an end, I would like to feature Jane Krakowski, star of the Emmy-award winning comedy “30 Rock” as our heart(y) celebrity for March.

An accomplished Tony-winning actress, dancer and singer who’s been pouring her heart into her craft since age 16, Jane is most inspired to advocate for women’s heart health by the strong women she works with every day. In fact, she is a long-time supporter of The Heart Truth, having walked in the Red Dress Collection 2007 Fashion Show in support of women’s heart health.

Jane in the Red Dress

The food company Campbell’s and the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women has done it again – raise awareness about women’s health – in style – through the Campbell Soup AdDRESS Your Heart Campaign. Each year, a celebrity designer steps up to the plate and designs exclusive dresses – something with red, of course. This year’s designer is Nicole Miller who created three gorgeous originals. And viewers had the chance to choose their favorite dress by clicking at the adDRESS site. For each click, Campbell’s donates $1 US to the Go Red for Women. The choice has been made – the winning entry is the gorgeous creation called Red, White, and Seamed. However, you can still click and help increase the donations. Last chance for clicking is today, March 2!

And this year. Jane Krakowski wore the winning dress in celebration of the American Heart Month.

“I hope my involvement will help educate women of all ages about the importance of knowing their risk factors and living a healthful lifestyle.

This is the third “red dress” so far. The 2007 dress was created by Michael Vollbracht and worn by Lorraine Bracco. Lisa Perry created the winning dress in 2008 which was then worn by singer Toni Braxton on the ABC television show “The View” to kick off American Heart Month.

The heart month may be over but that doesn’t mean that we should forget our battle against heart and stroke. We may not be able to wear red every day but we should always keep our heart health in mind. As Jane Krakowski said

“Knowing how many women this affects made me realize how important it is to take steps, such as eating right and exercising, to help protect your heart.”
